http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMjIyrsyUY0 This is one of the very first pieces of filming we did. The aim of this project was to get to grips with various equipment, (camera, tripod, lighting) and also to put into practice various camera angles, sound uses and editing we had learnt about so far. We based it on a thriller that we as a group had created the idea for, and we planned on it to be full of suspense and tension, with an air of uncertainty about it. I believe that we managed this quite efficiently for our very first film, and it was a lot of fun to film. We were pleased with the outcome, although we did find things that we had done wrong, but this encouraged us to perfect our next assignment as we now had some sort sort of idea as to what not to do to create a good thriller.
What posed a major problem in creating this was the acting ability of the actors, and the mise en scene. As we had a limited area to film in, i.e. the school, it was difficult to create an effective thriller atmosphere, but we overcame this by editing it in a black and white effect to give it an air of mysteriousness. Also the soundtrack helped a lot. The soundtrack was from a mixtape of various different thriller music provided by the teacher, but we listened to many others and discarded many others as we did not believe that it would fit our style of film. We came to this conclusion by viewing many other opening scenes of thrillers and deciding that sound was a key issue in creating the perfect atmosphere. We also picked up many of the conventions of thrillers in this same way, which aided us in completing the task at hand.
